The show still garners surprisingly good ratings with reruns on Nick at Nite.
Uncle Jesse and the gang may be on their way to a major comeback.
Warner Bros. Television is in the developmental stage of reviving the John Stamos sitcom, with most of the original cast in tow.
Stamos, who has an ownership stake in the property, has joined forces with series creator Jeff Franklin and executive producer Bob Boyett, to create a sequel series to the popular comedy that aired on ABC from 1987 to 1995. The show still garners surprisingly good ratings with reruns on Nick at Nite.
Franklin is writing the new version from an idea that Stamos devised which he describes as “a twist on a sequel”, and they have gathered most of the original cast to reprise their roles. Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, and Andrea Barber are all set to appear in the update, while Bob Saget and Dave Coulier are also on board. No word yet on whether Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen will be joining the gang.
Full House has been enjoying a resurgence as of late. In addition to the Nick at Nite repeats, Stamos, Saget, and Coulier all appeared together in a Super Bowl commercial for Dannon’s Oikos Greek yogurt which also led to a reunion on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Stamos has also reunited his fictional band from the show, Uncle Jesse and the Rippers.
Ratings for the show’s reruns in primetime average 1.5 million viewers, which represents a seven percent uptick from 2013. That includes a 0.4 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic. The series is also enjoying a strong following among teenagers who weren’t even born when the show was on the air at ABC.
The resurrection of this nostalgia piece follows the revival of another popular sitcom that ran in ABC’s family-friendly TGIF lineup around the same time. Boy Meets World has been given the sequel treatment on The Disney Channel with Girl Meets World, which has also brought back most of its original cast.
