GM engineered a car that could win a race on a track, while also be driven to work everyday.

General Motors has announced the suggested price tag for its newest, most powerful, most technologically advanced, and most expensive Corvette yet. Dubbed “the big nasty” by GM Executive Vice President, Mark Reuss, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will be sold at the suggested retail price of $78,995 for the coupe and $83,995 for the convertible.

“The Z06 Convertible is a world-class supercar in every sense,” said Reuss in a news release. “Only a handful of convertibles in the world bring more than 600 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. Even fewer can match the advanced technologies, aerodynamic design, and visceral driving experience of the Z06 Convertible.”

Both the Z06 convertible and coupe will deliver 650 horsepower, aerodynamic downforce, carbon fiber, and performance technologies such as Magnetic Ride Control and Performance Traction Management.

“The 2015 Corvette Z06’s performance and technical capabilities place it in the elite fraternity of supercars,” said Harlan Charles, Corvette product and marketing manager, in a press statement.

An extra $7,995 (because if you’re already dropping $80,000 why not?) will get you the “Z07 Performance Package,” which includes carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors to improve brake performance and handling, adjustable front and rear aerodynamic components to enhance the aerodynamic downforce, and Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tires for better grip.

Basically, GM engineered a car that could win a race on a track, while also be driven to work everyday.

“Very few cars on the market can match its combination of extreme, supercar levels of performance; the flexibility for daily driving and long-distance commuting,” said Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter.
