The series premieres October 3 on the Disney Channel.
The latest animated short in the Star Wars Rebels series debuts tomorrow, August 25 on Disney XD and features a snarky, muscled- up character named Zed.
You can watch the preview here, thanks to The Hollywood Reporter. In it, Zeb fends off Stormtroopers left and right, all by himself, while placating his boss on the phone. It’s clear that brawny Zeb is on a rogue mission, but just exactly what kind of mission that entails is unknown.
Steve Blum provides the voice of the character, whose creation was inspired by original Star Wars concept artist Ralph McQuarrie’s design for Chewbacca. Blum is well-known for his long list of voice characters for video games, including X-Men’s Wolverine.
Star Wars Rebels is an animated series by CGI that is set 14 years after Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and five years before Star Wars IV: A New Hope.
It’s a time when the Galactic Empire tightens its hold on the galaxy, hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights while a small rebellion against the Empire starts to rise. Those rebels include the crew of the Ghost starship — Kanan, Hera, Ezra, Zeb, Sabine and Chopper. There are villains to be faced, one in particular named Inquisitor, and adventures to pursue as the ragtag crew turns into heroes.
The series premieres October 3, 2014 with a one-hour special called Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion. After that, it will air on Monday nights at 9 p.m. starting October 13.
Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg and Greg Weisman have been named as executive producers. Filoni and Kinberg created the series along with Carrie Beck. Along with Blum, Freddie Prinze Jr., Tiya Sircar, Vanessa Marshall, Jason Isaacs, David Oyelowo and Billy Dee Williams are the starring voice actors. The series is a Lucasfilm Animation production.
