The CHP officer is currently on administrative leave.
The California Highway Patrol Officer, who was caught on video beating a woman on a freeway shoulder in July, may be in “serious” trouble.
“The California Highway Patrol has forwarded the results of a criminal investigation to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office outlining potentially serious charges for the officer involved,” said the CHP Southern Division in a statement obtained by the Los Angeles Daily News.
The video, which quickly went viral and fueled criticism of police tactics and procedures, showed CHP Daniel Andrew sitting on top of Marlene Pinnock and punching her as she struggles.
According to the New York Daily News, the 51-year-old woman has sued the CHP and says she was placed under a 72-hour psychiatric hold following the incident.
