Singer also premiered new single and video music from her fifth album, due in October.
Taylor Swift fans are rejoicing again. The 24-year-old singer participated in a much-anticipated Yahoo live stream yesterday to announce her new album and to premiere her new single and accompanying music video.
According to People, Swift’s fifth album, 1989, is what Swift refers to as her “very first official, documented pop album.” The album is named after the year the singer was born and she said the 80’s played an important role in inspiring her with the new music. “I loved the chances they were taking,” she said of that era. “It was apparently a time of limitless potential.” The dance video for her new single, “Shake it Off”, available in both the embedded People article and the live stream link, definitely references the decade, showing Swift dancing with a variety of people in several different styles and in multiple costumes, including some clearly inspired 80’s fashions.
“Shake It Off,” a catchy tune with lyrics such as “haters gonna hate,” seems written as a response to the relentless news coverage of Swift’s romantic relationships. Swift commented, “I had to learn a pretty tough lesson in the past couple of years, that people can say anything they want about us at any time and we cannot control it. You can descend into insanity over it if you want. Option two is you can just shake it off.”
Swift’s website contains a handy countdown to the arrival of the album for eager fans. 1989 will be released on October 27th.
