Depp and his daughter will act alongside Smith's daughter in upcoming film.
Writer-director Kevin Smith revealed in April that Johnny Depp will be in his upcoming horror film Tusk, and now reports are stating the duo will also collaborate in Smith’s next feature, Yoga Hoser. The Hollywood Reporter claims that the Oscar-nominated actor will finally work alongside his daughter, Lily-Rose Depp, in the film.
Based on an original screenplay by Smith, Yoga Hosers will reportedly star Lily-Rose Depp and Smith’s daughter Harley Quinn Smith as two Canadian 15-year-old girls who are infatuated with yoga and work at a convenience store called Eh-2-Zed. Depp will portray a “legendary man-hunter from Montreal named Guy Lapointe”, whom the girls team up with in order to take down supernatural forces of evil which threaten the girls from getting to a party.
Kevin Smith has referred to the film as a Tusk spinoff, since most of the cast of that movie – including Michael Parks, Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez, Ralph Garman, Jennifer Schwalbach and Harley Morenstein – will be in Yoga Hosers. Tusk even features a scene set at the Eh-2-Zed. It is unknown whether Depp will be making his debut as Guy Lapointe in the horror movie.
Since Smith’s Superman Lives script never ended up getting made into a movie, The Hollywood Reporter writes that the writer-director considers this his first true foray into the world of comic book movies.
“People always ask me ‘Are you ever going to make a comic book movie?’ This is it – but instead of yet another dude saving the day, our antiheroes are the most feared and formidable creatures man has ever encountered: two 15-year-old girls,” said Smith.
Production for the film has found financing, and foreign rights for the film will be on sale at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. It does not yet have an anticipated release date.
