"It takes away texting, it takes away the gaming, it takes away calling their friends"
Sick of her calls and texts being ignored by her kids, a Texas mom took matters into her own hands.
“We need to develop an app that just shuts their phone completely down and they can’t even use it,” Sharon Standifird, a Houston mother, told ABC’s Houston-affiliate. “I got on the Internet and I literally just started researching how to develop an app.”
Only a few months later, Standifird had designed the “Ignore No More” app, which, at the touch of a button, disables kids’ phones until they call their parents back.
Once “Ignore No More” is downloaded onto both the parent’s and child’s phones, all a frustrated parent needs to do is touch the app, tap his or her kid’s name, enter at least a four digit code, and press “lock.” And presto, their child’s phone will go blank.
The user of the disabled phone will then see a list of parental-approved contacts that the child can call to receive the code necessary to unlock the phone.
“Bradley needs to call me because I’m the person that has the unlock password,” Standifird said, referring to her son. “It takes away texting, it takes away the gaming, it takes away calling their friends.”
Emergency 9-11 dialing remains available, even on locked phones.
The Ignore No More app costs $1.99 for Android phones via the Google Play store. An iphone version is currently in development.
