BBC gives viewers a glimpse of what to expect from the upcoming season of 'Doctor Who.'
The new season of Doctor Who starts on Saturday, Aug. 23 on BBC, and the network is finally giving viewers a glimpse of who will be writing, directing and guest starring in the next 12 episodes. While fan-favorite companion Jenna-Louise Coleman is rumored to be leaving her role as the Doctor’s assistant during this year’s Christmas episode, audiences will still have plenty to look forward to with several familiar faces returning to the series and Peter Capaldi making his debut as the infamous Time Lord.
A source told the Mirror UK this week that Coleman will be putting an end to her 18 months as Clara Oswald at the end of this year, meaning Capaldi will need a new companion.
“The conversations about Jenna’s exit have started, and a plan is in place which is being ironed out. By the time she leaves she will be one of the longest-standing companions ever. She has been absolutely brilliant in the role, but everyone agrees it is a part that should change after a period.”
However, before she leaves, Coleman and Capaldi will be joined by celebrated actors such as Spooks star Hermione Norris, Da Vinci’s Demons star Tom Riley, and Doctor Who veteran Jemma Redgrave. The BBC has revealed that the two-part season finale will see the return of Redgrave’s Kate Stewart, who was last appeared in the 2013 Christmas special, “The Day of the Doctor.” Steven Moffat will return to write more than half of this season’s episodes.
