With less than a month to go before Samsung unveils the next generation Note 'phablet,' reports suggest it may have a metal body.
Just as its wildly popular Galaxy S smartphone line, Samsung’s Note ‘phablets’ have come in familiar plastic casings, making them lighter than more bulky and metallic HTC. That appears to be a thing of the past, as Samsung is allegedly preparing to roll out a Galaxy Note 4 next month that will have a metallic body – and so will the next Galaxy smartphone, the S6.
According to reports – which were not confirmed by Samsung officials – the 5.7-inch Note 4 is expected to “feature aspects of the new metal design approach found in the recently unveiled Galaxy Alpha,” CNET reported.
Samsung is poised to debut the new Note Sept. 3 at an Unpacked event held during the annual IFA show in Berlin. Specs leaked earlier this week suggest the device will have 4GB RAM and sport a Quad HD 1,440-pixel screen.
The Note 4 will be available in black body color and feature a 16-megapixel camera. It will be powered by either a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 chip or an octa-core Exynos 5433 chip with four 1.3GHz Cortex-A53 and four Cortex-A57 cores, according to CNET, which also cites reports indicate the “Snapdragon chip is headed for the U.S. while the edition with the Exynos processor will land in international markets.”
According to CNET, the metal design of the Note 4 may be a preview of the Galaxy S6, slated for release next year.
“We may find that the Alpha is merely a one-off model used to introduce the new company direction,” CNET’s Scott Webster wrote. “The name is certainly befitting for such an act.”
