While veteran networks stole most of the show, the online-streaming company proved to be quite a force in entertainment.
Of course, the more established networks stole the show at last night’s Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards. But an emerging online outlet proved to be quite the contender.
The awards show, held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, honors behind-the-scenes achievements and programs that initially aired between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Taking home the most Emmy awards was HBO with 15 awards, many going to their popular shows “Game of Thrones” and “True Detective.”
NBC came in with ten—a majority of them going to the late-night sketch show Saturday Night Live. For the second straight year, Jimmy Fallon won the Guest Actor in a Comedy Series award for hs hosting duties. The series also won for outstanding costumes for a variety program or special; outstanding hairstyling for a multi-camera series or special; outstanding makeup for a multi-camera series or special; and outstanding directing for a variety series
Tying with fox— and beating several other networks— with seven awards was the online movie-streaming network Netflix. Actress Uzo Aduba won an Emmy for her breakout role as “Crazy Eyes” in Orange is the New Black. She beat out her castmates Laverne Cox and Natasha Lyonne; Saturday Night Live hosts Tina Fey and Melissa McCarthy; and Joan Cusack from Showtime’s Shameless. The series also received two other awards, for casting and picture editing.
PBS took home eight awards, CBS with six, and ABC had five.
A two-hour, edited version of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards will air Sunday, Aug. 24 on FXX. Awards in other acting, writing and directing categories will be given at the 66th Prime Time Emmy Awards. The show airs live on August 25 on NBC
