Two abducted Amish girls have been found safe, the New York Daily News reports.
12-year-old Fannie Miller and 7-year-old Delila Miller were tending to their fruit stand in upstate New York on Wednesday when they were allegedly abducted by two men who are still at large.
Citing St. Lawrence County District Attorney Mary Rain, Fox News reports that the girls showed up unharmed at a home approximately 13 miles from where they went missing.
According to Fox News, the search was made more difficult by the fact that the girls’ family didn’t have photos that police could circulate to help the public look for their faces. News of their disappearance, however, was spread to other communities via word of mouth, a traditional form of communication among the Amish.
“When I was talking to the father, one of the main points he was making was ‘It’s in God’s hands,” said New York State Senator Patty Ritchie, according to 7 News. “We went to a candlelight vigil, prayed for the family and shortly after got good news.”
“We should be proud this is where we live,” she added.
