Tracy Morgan ‘still struggling’ after horrific June car crash, lawyer says

The actor-comedian suffered multiple injuries in a June car crash on the NJ Turnpike.

There’s nothing funny about it. Comedian Tracy Morgan is “still struggling” to recover from his injuries sustained in a car crash in June, as his lawyer Benedict Morelli revealed when he visited NBC’s The Today Show on Monday to talk about his client’s progress.

“He’s still struggling,” Morelli reported. “But he’s a fighter. He’s had issues before that he’s fought through, and he’s fighting hard.” As reported back in June by NBC Philadelphia, 45-year-old Morgan was traveling in a limo when his vehicle was struck on the New Jersey Turnpike by a tractor-trailer. Morgan’s friend and mentor, comedian James MacNair or “Jimmy Mack,” was killed in the crash, and several other passengers, including comedian Ardie Fuqua, Jr, were seriously injured.

According to CNN, the driver of the truck, Kevin Roper, was uninjured and has pled not guilty to resulting criminal charges including vehicular homicide. Morgan, who suffered a broken leg, nose, and several broken ribs, joined with his fellow passengers to file a lawsuit in New Jersey against Wal-mart, who owns the truck. The suit, filed in June, claims that Roper had not slept for over 24 hours and had reached the federal safety limit for drive times at the time of the crash.

Morelli told Today that such conditions were the standard at Wal-mart. “I’m going to show…that that’s the culture at Wal-Mart. That’s what they set up.” Wal-mart has issued a statement saying they will cooperate with the federal investigation and take “full responsibility” if found liable.
