Two people were killed and five, including those two children, were wounded in a Lower Ninth Ward shooting.
In two shootings that took place Sunday in New Orleans, police say three have died and six, including a tw0-year-old and a five-year-old, are wounded.
Two people were killed and five, including those two children, were wounded in a Lower Ninth Ward shooting (Lower Ninth Ward was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina in 2005). The police spokesperson Frank Robertson said of those five the two- and five year-olds and one other victim were in critical condition and the other two were in stable condition.
WVUE-TV, local New Orleans Fox News affiliate channel, reported that witnesses told police multiple people were seen fleeing the scene by car.
No information on any motive has been released at this time.
An unrelated shooting Sunday at the edge of the French Quarter left a 24-year-old wounded at the hands of his 20-year-old purported friend. After a three-hour bout in which the police tried to negotiate with the 20-year-old to release the 24-year-old to them, the 20-year-old shot himself.
This went down on the 17th floor of The Westin on Canal Street where the two men just mentioned and two other friends, whose identities have not been released by authorities, were staying for the weekend, said police spokesperson Robertson. Three of them, including the 20- and 24-year-olds, came back from partying in the Quarter at 5 a.m.
The fourth, who had been asleep, awoke his friend pleading, “Put the gun down.”
This fourth member claims the 20-year-old was pointing the gun at his older friend, looking “dazed and confused under the influence of some unknown substance.”
At 6:30 a. m., despite all attempts to calm him down and talk him out of it, the 20-year-old shot his companion in the chest. The other two friends fled to seek help, hearing another shot as they left. When police arrived the 20-year-old turned the gun on them.
The police retreated to call in a SWAT team. After three hours of negotiations, the 20-year-old turned the gun on himself. He was pronounced dead at 9:55 a. m.
The 24-year-old was rushed to the hospital and was in stable condition Sunday evening, according to foxnews.com.
