A 17-year-old boy is being held on $1 million bail for the rape and murder of six-year-old Jenise Wright, The Associated Press reports.

According to The Seattle Times, Gabriel Gaeta is being held on one count of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree rape.

The newspaper says that Gaeta was connected to the murder of Jenise via a DNA match between his DNA and the DNA located on bloody clothes found near the girl’s body.

Wright was reported missing on Sunday, August 3. According to Reuters, the young girl’s dad told police that she frequently played outside by herself, leading to some confusion in the beginning as to whether Jenise had been kidnapped or had left her home and gotten lost.

Search efforts for Jenise ended on Thursday, August 7, when authorities discovered her body.

The suspect is reportedly a “close friend of the [Wright] family.”

“It’s devastating and it’s going to be hard to forgive,” Jenise’s father James Wright told The Seattle Times.
