Since leaving The Tonight Show, Jay Leno has not just been sitting around doing nothing. On the contrary, the legendary talk show host has been focusing on his YouTube video series, “Jay Leno’s Garage,” which launched two years ago and which will likely hit a million subscribers at some point in the next few months.
The most recent episode of “Jay Leno’s Garage” is arguably the most exciting one yet, featuring a brand-new, high-powered 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. According to an article published by Tech Times, the specs for the new Hellcat read like a list of racing car superlatives. The car has a 6.2-liter HEMI supercharged V8 engine, boasts 707 horsepower and 650-pound torque, and can travel a quarter mile in just 10.8 seconds. As Leno notes in his video, those stats make the Hellcat one of the most powerful muscle cars on the planet.
To start off this episode, Leno compared the Hellcat to his original 1970 Challenger, which has 425 horsepower and can make 0 to 60 in 6.4 seconds.
“It looks good, but it’s not really impressive,” Leno said of the older car.
A true car snob, Leno wondered why Tim Kuniskis, the President and CEO of Dodge, brought him an eight-speed automatic version of the Hellcat rather than the six-speed stick shift version. However, Kuniskis said that, with modern technology, the automatic can shift gears far faster and more efficiently than any human can.
Best of all, the Hellcat has multiple settings – including track and street – so that drivers can supercharge it, take it up to high speeds, and burn a gallon of fuel in a minute, or ease it back, cruise around with the air conditioning and stereo on, and get 20 miles per gallon.
