Volkswagen has announced a recall of 151,389 Tiguans due to a problem that may cause the vehicle to stall while driving.

Volkswagen has announced that it is recalling 151,389 Tiguans due to a defect that could cause the car to stall while driving.

The vehicles included in the recall are the 2009 to 2014 Tiguans, and according to Volkswagen the problem takes place when winter fuel blends are used in warmer climates or during warm months. Essentially, it may cause gas bubbles to form in the fuel system, causing the SUV to stall.

The problem can also happen when the car is restarted and driven again before the engine has cooled down. While no injuries or accidents have been reported because of the problem, the recall is a precaution.

Owners of the vehicles being recalled will get revised software installed to fix the problem. The fix will be free for owners of the vehicle and the software fix will essentially boost fuel pump pressure. The recalls will begin on August 19.

Volkswagen will make a separate announcement for the Canadian version of the car, which will affect around 40,000 vehicles on top of the 151,389 that it has already affected in the U.S.

The news comes amidst a trend of vehicle recalls in the past few months. Hyundai recently announced a recall involving 43,500 vehicles built between 2008 and 2012, after which the company was given a $17.34 million fine for delaying the recall. Another recent recall involves a number of General Motors vehicles, and is taking place after four deaths were blamed on an ignition switch defect.

Volkswagen also announced another recall on Friday involving 18,500 U.S. made 2009 Routan minivans due to ignition switch problems.
