Audiences can prepare for a sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The action/science fiction film opened strongly in theatres. It debuted to 65 million at the box office. The movie stars Megan Fox and Will Arnett and uses CGI effects to create the ninja turtles. It is directed by Jonathan Liebesman and produced by Michael Bay and Nickelodeon Movies. Bay was also behind the Transformers franchise, with Fox in the first two of its films. With a successful opening, a sequel is already in the works.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is based on the comic series of the same name. First published in 1984, it is about four teenage anthropomorphic turtles trained in the art of ninjutsu. Named after Renaissance artists, they are mentored by a rat, also anthropomorphic. The turtles live in a sewer in New York City and fight crime. The franchise was hugely successful in the 1980s and continued on in the 1990s, gaining worldwide recognition and spawning merchandise, including toys and video games. A live-action film was released in 1990, along with two sequels.

In the 2014 film, Fox plays April O’Neill, a news reporter who witnesses crime being committed by the Foot Clan, a mysterious group causing trouble. She teams up with the ninja turtles to bring them to justice. TMNT was a highly anticipated film, and while it opened to mixed reviews, it proved to be a box office hit. The turtles display advanced fighting skills, along with plenty of laughs. They are also portrayed with CGI effects, as opposed to actors in turtle costumes in the previous live-action films.

The sequel will hit theatres in the summer of 2016. Bay and Nickelodeon Movies will continue to be the producers. Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Leonardo will be back for more fun, action, and crime-fighting.
