Some fans of the book series Outlander might not like the television adaption. Executive producer Ronald D. Moore realizes that not everyone will enjoy the version on the small screen. He has worked to remain faithful to the books written by Diana Gabaldon. He knows that there is a large fanbase, and while some will love how the series is adapted, others might hate it. The show will air on the Starz channel.
Moore has a history in science fiction. He was a producer on the Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek franchises, and knows how passionate fans can get. Outlander is about a woman named Claire Randall who is separated from her husband by their work. She is a combat nurse during World War II. Claire travels back into time in the year 1743. In that era in Scotland, she is in danger and has to marry Captain James Fraser. She becomes involved in romance, adventure, and being torn between two lives. This is an eight novel series that is multi-genre. It was published in 1991 and gained great reception, winning the Romance Writers of America Award for Best Romance.
Now the novels have been adapted to a television series on Starz. Fans of the books will judge for themselves how well the show measures up. Moore says the series goes beyond typical romance novels to combine historical fiction, with twists and turns for timeless storytelling. The show was filmed in Scotland and is centered on a strong female lead. The premiere took place at San Diego Comic-Con to an enthusiastic audience. There is always pressure when adapting books to the silver or small screen. “You try not to worry about it too much. You have to trust your own instincts when you are telling a story”, said Moore.
