A new clip released by Lifetime reveals behind-the-scene turmoil on the 'Saved by the Bell' set.
Cable channel Lifetime has released a preview of its upcoming original movie The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story in advance of the film’s Sept. 1 debut.
The upcoming film chronicles the behind-the-scenes antics of the cast of the hit teen show, Saved by the Bell, which aired from 1989 to 1993. The movie is based on the book, Behind the Bell, written by one of the show’s stars, Dustin Diamond, with the assistance of a ghostwriter. Behind the Bell was published in 2009.
In the clip, the six popular cast members attend a promotional photo shoot in which the young actors’ jealousy quickly becomes apparent. The scene depicts Lark Voorhies, played by Taylor Russell McKenzie, as having a romantic interest in Mark-Paul Gosselaar (played by Dylan Everett), which is complicated by his flirting with Tiffani Thiesen, portrayed by Alyssa Lynch.
Elizabeth Berkley’s character attempts to smooth over the conflicted relationship between the other two female leads.
The cast is further rounded out by more newcomers who, notably, were cast by Saved by the Bell‘s original casting director Robin Lippin.
In the movie, Sam Kindseth plays Dustin Diamond; Julian Works plays Mario Lopez; and Tiera Skovbye plays Elizabeth Berkley.
The real Mark-Paul Gosselaar sat down with HuffPost Live on Wednesday when the topic of both The Unauthorized Saved… movie and Diamond’s tell-all book came up.
“It is negative. That I must say. Everything I’ve heard about his book is that it is negative, and I don’t remember those things because my experience on the show was very positive,” said Gosselaar.
Actor Breckin Meyer was also present for the interview. The two actors were promoting the television series, Franklin & Bash, in which they both star.
Meyer had harsher words for Diamond.
“This guy (Diamond) is such a dick,” noted Gosselaar’s new co-star.
To Diamond’s credit, he has stated that he regrets much of the 2009 book’s contents, remarking that the book’s ghostwriter took liberties.
The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story premieres Sept. 1 on Lifetime.
