Actress Katie Holmes has been more or less absent in the media recently, preferring instead to raise her daughter Suri in peace now that she’s a single mom. That changed, however, when the 35 year old actress made an appearance on NBC’s “Today Show,” her first in 13 years. In the segment she and host Matt Lauer talked motherhood, her upcoming movie and, yes, her ex-husband superstar Tom Cruise.

“I try very hard because I am very grateful for my upbringing and my parents and siblings. I try to do what they did for me for my little one. The most important thing for me is letting her know how proud I am and that her accomplishments mean everything. Whatever I do is whatever. It’s really just about her and that’s what I think is most important.”

“I think, of course, you try your best,” she told Lauer regarding raising daughter Suri, now eight years old.

When the conversation turned to her former relationship with megastar Tom Cruise (the one in which he emphatically bounced on Oprah’s couch), she was short on words, but didn’t seem bitter.

“I never really look back. I just approach life one day at a time. I’m excited about where I am right now, this movie…I’ve had some really wonderful creative experiences. I am just excited about the future,” replied The Giver actress.

A non-answer? Sure, but a positive one.
