Reports claim Corden will take over the CBS talk show after Ferguson steps down this December.
Craig Ferguson has hosted CBS’ The Late Late Show since 2005, but the comedian recently announced that he will be stepping down from his role this December. While his replacement has not yet been officially announced, reports claim that British comedian James Corden will take over the 12:35 a.m. talk show.
An “individual with knowledge of the situation” told The Wrap on Tuesday that Corden has been approached by the network, but reps for CBS and Corden have yet to confirm this news.
While Corden is likely being pursued for his comedic chops, the 35-year-old actor’s impressive musical resume may mean that a few musical numbers may pop up now and then should he end up hosting The Late Late Show. Corden will star as The Baker in the musical film Into the Woods, joining a star-studded ensemble cast which includes Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, Meryl Streep, and Johnny Depp. He recently starred in the musical film Begin Again with Keira Knightley, and he won a Tony Award for his starring role in the comedy One Man, Two Guvnors, which he performed in both London and New York City. The actor has also made notable appearances in British TV shows like Doctor Who, Fat Friends and Teachers, and won a BAFTA for Best Comedy Performance and a British Comedy Award for his starring role in the British sitcom Gavin & Stacey.
Corden is not yet a household name in America, but his 4.3 million followers on Twitter prove that he definitely has an established fanbase and will likely see success on The Late Late Show.
