A single-vehicle rollover crash has killed two children and a man in the Grand Canyon State, The Associated Press reports.
Citing Scottsdale police officer David Pubins, The AP notes that a driver lost control of his pickup truck and rolled it at approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday. The driver and two girls were killed.
The girls’ dad, who was also riding in the pickup truck, is expected to survive.
According to Pubins, alcohol and weather are thought to have played a role in the deadly crash.
“Please avoid 141st Street and Rio Verde for a single vehicle rollover collision with a fatality,” the Scottsdale PD tweeted.
According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, in 2011, 226 children were killed in drunk driving crashes. Of those, 54 percent were riding with the drunk driver. Furthermore, in 2011, 15 percent of all drivers involved in deadly crashes during the week were drunk, compared to 31 percent on weekends.
The Scottsdale PD has not released the names of those involved in the accident.
