Johns reportedly died due to a blood clot in his ankle.
Former American Idol contestant Michael Johns, 35, died Friday, TMZ reports.
Johns reportedly died due to a blood clot in his ankle. TMZ notes that Johns had twisted his ankle prior to his death. He died in his sleep.
A number of celebrities who worked with Johns during his time on Idol have expressed their sadness over the singer’s passing.
“I’m so torn up over the news about Michael Johns. Michael was not just an amazing talent, he was an incredible human being who was so full of life that the notion of it stopping is incomprehensible to me. His echo will live on forever…” said Paula Abdul, one of the original Idol judges, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
According to TMZ, Johns had teamed up with Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe for charity work after his time on the show.
“He was a great talent and dear friend,” Lythgoe said, according to THR. “My boys and I were devastated to hear the news.”
Johns finished 8th in Season 7 of the hit singing competition. He eventually went on to record his own album in 2009, called “Hold Back My Heart.”
