Whoops: GM website gave false information about recalls

GM has recalled nearly 30 million cars this year due to mechanical problems.

More bad news for General Motors.

The GM website designed to give owners info on recalled cars had been giving out false information, Bloomberg reported on Friday, citing a statement from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to USA Today, some owners using the GM “VIN look-up” were told their cars weren’t part of the car maker’s recall even when the cars were actually being recalled.

“We are aware of NHSTA’s inquiry on the VIN look-up issue,” GM spokesman Greg Martin told USA Today. We are making the necessary changes to our website.”

The NHTSA said, according to Bloomberg, that accurate info would be available for owners after 5:30 pm EDT on Friday.

The Huffington Post points out nearly 30 million cars have been recalled by GM this year due to mechanical problems. Included in this recall are cars with an ignition switch issue that has had deadly consequences for at least 13 drivers.
