The Amazon Fire Phone has surprisingly become the most popular smartphone on Amazon's store. This is despite receiving generally negative reviews upon its release.
Amazon’s Fire Phone, with its unique new features, has become the top selling mobile device on Amazon, slowly rising throughout the week in popularity among consumers.
The device has become known since its release for its 3D images and touchless gesture controls, and it has remained in the top spot on Amazon since Monday. This comes as a surprise to critics, many of whom did not have favorable opinions of the device.
Amazon has also received its fair share of criticism for its new features, with many users saying that the features are essentially just gimmicks, or that they are interesting but rarely useful. Because of this criticism, one of the main selling points of the phone is its ability to provide a seamless shopping experience to users. Firefly, which is one of the device’s shopping features, allows users to buy almost anything from the Amazon store through image recognition software that can recognize items that the user might take a photo of or search online.
The device also includes Amazon’s Fire OS 3.5, which is the same operating system found on Amazon’s Kindle Fire range of devices, and is based on Google’s Android.
The Amazon Fire Phone has some impressive specs apart from its 3D features and shopping abilities. The device boasts a 2.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 800 CPU with an Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM. It also includes a 4.7″ HD display, along with a 13MP rear-facing camera that’s capable of capturing 1080p HD video.
The Fire Phone is currently Amazon’s only smartphone, but with the apparent commercial success of the device, it is expected that Amazon will continue to release smartphones in the future.
