Obama: ‘We tortured some folks’ after 9/11

"We crossed a line," the president said.

President Barack didn’t mince words on Friday when he admitted that the U.S. tortured suspects after 9/11.

“We tortured some folks,” Obama said at a news conference, according to The Associated Press. “We did some things that were contrary to our values.”

“We crossed a line,” Obama added. “That needs to be understood and accepted. We did some things that were wrong, and that’s what that report reflects.”

According to The Huffington Post, Obama admitted to the torture ahead of the declassification of a Senate investigation into the CIA’s controversial interrogation techniques.

Obama also took the opportunity to defend CIA Director John Brennan after a CIA Inspector General’s Office report revealed that the spy agency hacked Senate computers in 2009.

“I have full confidence in John Brennan,” Obama said. “I think he has acknowledged and directly apologized to Senator Feinstein that C.I.A. personnel did not properly handle an investigation as to how certain documents that were not authorized to be released to the Senate staff got somehow into the hands of the Senate staff.”
