Monday nights heat up with the ABC premiere of ‘The Bachelor’ spinoff

With a new season comes a new reality show on ABC.

With a new season comes a new reality show on ABC. The Bachelor in Paradise is a spinoff of the long-running series The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. This time, previous male and female contestants from the shows will be in a Mexican locale that is isolated so romance can blossom. It will have the similar format as the original franchise did. There will be a series of dates, and at the first rose ceremony, each man will pick a woman. As contestants leave, new ones will be added on to shake up the game.

The Bachelor series first aired in 2002 as reality television became popular. It has held steady ratings, continuing on many seasons when other shows were cancelled. The franchise has international versions in countries like Brazil, Germany, and Israel. The contestants stay in a custom home surrounded by a beautiful landscape. The bachelor goes on several dates, sometimes in a group, other times one-on-one with a woman. When he gets down to four women, the man will spend more time with each one, knowing them on a deeper level. Finally, he will get down to one, to whom he proposes. There are twists, romance, and heartache, making for drama and high ratings. The Bachelorette is the same show with the genders reversed, and the final bachelor proposes.

There was one spinoff called Bachelor Pad in 2010, but it was cancelled after a few seasons. The latest spinoff will set the game in Mexico with more men for a different take on the show. It premieres on Monday at 8/7c, and brings the dates and love triangles to a new level. Fans of the show will get to see some notable contestants back for love, and bringing plenty of drama. Chris Harrison will once again host, as he has done for all seasons. Tune into ABC to see what happens.
