When he gets down to four women, the man will spend more time with each one, knowing them on a deeper level. Finally, he will get down to one, to whom he proposes. There are twists, romance, and heartache, making for drama and high ratings. The Bachelorette is the same show with the genders reversed, and the final bachelor proposes.

There was one spinoff called Bachelor Pad in 2010, but it was cancelled after a few seasons. The latest spinoff will set the game in Mexico with more men for a different take on the show.
