It has been reported by Variety, Paul Feig, the film director of the female casted comedy Bridesmaids, has met with Sony Pictures to produce a Ghostbusters 3 film consisting of all female lead roles. The magazine sources have said Sony and Feig at least had a conversation about reviving the old classic franchise, but that no other substantial contract negotiations have occurred.
Ghostbuster fans have been hearing reports of a Ghostbusters 3 movie for nearly a decade now, so it is hard to tell the sincerity of the Sony and Feig’s all female ghostbusters cast for Ghostbusters 3. It is easy however to see the benefits and philosophical impact an all female cast would have on film industry. In 2013 it was published by Yale researchers only 30 percent of television and film lines were written for female roles and only 1 out of 10 protagonists played by females.
The Trade has given word the Ghostbusters 3 script would be written from scratch and most likely stand alone from the the first two Ghostbuster films. The lady ghostbusters have yet to be revealed as weather or not they will resemble the ghostbusting teams of old, but speculators agree the female leads will most likely be comedic actresses. Feig has created a fantastic career working with female leads and comes at no surprise why Sony would want Feig at the helm of a female casted Ghostbusters 3.
The rumors surrounding Ghostbusters 3 and its all female cast are exciting and controversial to say the least. In an industry largely dominated by men, Feig has helped the female actor compete and gain recognition and equality within a competitive industry. An all female cast for Ghostbusters 3 would do no different.
