Kelsey Grammer forgives his sister’s killer after nearly 40 years

'Fraiser' star speaks to his sister's killer during parole case.

Nearly forty years after Freddie Glenn raped and murdered his sister, Emmy award-winning actor Kelsey Grammer has offered his forgiveness. Grammer and Glenn spoke during Glenn’s recent parole hearing, and while the Fraiser star was able to accept his apology, Grammer refused to support Glenn’s plea to be released from prison.

In his parole case, Glenn attempted to convince the board that his crimes were the result of “mixing with the wrong crowd” and youthful ignorance. He was convicted of murdering Daniel van Lone during a robbery which earned him 50 cents, Winford Proffitt, and then kidnapping, raping and murdering Grammer’s sister, Karen Elisa, on Jul. 1, 1975. Elisa was kidnapped while waiting for her boyfriend outside of a Red Lobster restaurant in Colorado Springs because Glenn and his accomplices feared she knew they had made a number of attempts to rob the restaurant. Evidence in the original trial revealed that Glenn was high on LSD when he slit Elisa’s throat. Grammer was called in to identify his sister’s body.

Glenn was originally sentenced to death, but his penalty was commuted to life imprisonment. During this week’s hearing, he announced that he is now engaged and has two sisters who are prepared to offer him a home before apologizing to Grammer and asking for his forgiveness.

“Thank you,” said Grammer, who gave evidence via video link in the hearing. “I accept your apology. I forgive you. However, I cannot give your release my endorsement. To give that a blessing would be a betrayal of my sister’s life.”

“I want to believe you have actually changed your life I want to believe you could even find a way to become a useful productive citizen. The things you say I accept a lot of them, I even say in a way, in admiration, you have found a way to survive in prison, become a model prisoner. I accept you that live with remorse every day of your life; I live with tragedy every day of my life.”

The parole board denied Glenn’s appeal for parole.
