Is she investing or indicating signs of trouble? The New York Post reported on Monday that their exclusive sources saw singer Beyonce looking at a new apartment in the city this weekend without her husband, rapper Jay-Z.

The sources claim Beyonce was seen touring a $21.5 million penthouse apartment in Chelsea, acting “very quiet, as if she was on the sly.” The same sources suggested several reasons why this was likely a solo venture. First, Jay-Z is a keen businessman who is notoriously closely involved with the couple’s real estate purchases, but he was mysteriously absent on this visit. Second, at 4,045 square feet the potential apartment is roughly half the size of the Tribeca property the couple currently owns in New York, and the source alleges, “Jay is not downsizing.”

The information has fans and media suspecting Beyonce is looking for a new home for just herself and her 2-year-old daughter Blue Ivy. Rumors of trouble between the normally private power couple have been in overdrive since May, when the infamous video showing Beyonce’s sister Solange attacking Jay-Z in an elevator went public, sparking suspicions of trouble in the marriage. Some fans felt these rumors were reinforced earlier this month when during a concert Beyonce changed the lyrics of her song Resentment to words seemingly targeting her husband. However, no formal announcement has been made, and Beyonce continues to post photos of herself with her husband on her private Tumblr website.

The couple refused to comment for the Post’s story.
