Some were treated at a nearby hospital, while others were placed in protective custody for alcohol-related issues at the concert.
At a recent Keith Urban concert, 46 people were treated for alcohol-related illnesses and another 50 or so were placed in protective custody, according to E! Online.
Country singing sensation Urban, 46, played the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, outside of Boston, where rougly 18,000 people gathered to watch him perform on Sunday.
Of the 46 people treated for alcohol-related illnesses, 24 were treated on site at the venue, while 22 were taken to a nearby hospital.
The approximately 50 people taken into protective custody could face criminal charges.
“Last evening’s Keith Urban concert was not anticipated to present with the volume of issues handled, but measures were in place to provide appropriate and adequate care and protection to all patrons,” said Mansfield, Massachusetts Fire Chief Neal Boldrighini and Police Chief Ronald Sellon, in a joint statement.
They further commented that ambulances from five area cities responded to assist with the issue.
Urban, who has opened up about his struggles with alcohol in the past, posted an appreciative video on YouTube after the show.
“What a great night tonight, I always want to say Boston but we technically were in Mansfield tonight, but it was killer,” said the country-singing Kiwi in the video.
His comments did eventually touch a little on the crowd’s enthused yet inebriated status.
“Gosh, up on the lawn tonight, that was nutso, it was so cool,” said Urban. “Anyway if you came tonight, thank you for giving us all the love and energy.”
No word yet on what circumstances led to the concert’s uncharacteristically high volume of alcohol-related issues.
Keith Urban heads to the Midwest next, playing Cincinnati, Ohio on Thursday.
