The Queen of Soul was told she could not consume her take-out burger inside the retro diner.
American soul icon Aretha Franklin recently issued a statement regarding a negative experience she had at a Johnny Rockets restaurant in Niagara Falls, Ontario, according to USA Today.
The “Chain of Fools” singer stopped into the burger joint after performing a sold-out show on Tuesday at Artpark Outdoor Amphitheater in Lewiston, N.Y. She initially ordered a burger to go, but upon receiving the food, she decided to eat her dinner inside the restaurant instead.
A Johnny Rockets employee told her that she could not do so because she had ordered the food as take-out.
In a statement, Franklin, 72, described the waiter as “very rude, unprofessional and nasty.”
In a response statement, Johnny Rockets described the employee as “new and very young.”
Franklin is a well-respected musician who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. She was the first woman to receive such an honor. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest singers of all time.
Franklin has not indicated whether or not she plans to return to the restaurant in question.
