George R.R. Martin warns GOT Book Fans: Anyone can die in the TV show

A Game of Thrones panel at Comic Con featured actors Kit Harington, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and series creator George R.R. Martin who warned that book spoilers or not, nobody is safe in Westeros.

There’s good news for fans of HBO’s Game of Thrones: they learned of the show’s many new cast additions at Comic-Con in San Diego. The bad news, however, is none of them are exempt from death on the show.

Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) headlined a panel on Friday that included co-stars, producers, and the man behind the books, George R.R. Martin. Fans of the show filled the largest ballroom to meet the people who make the popular show. They even had the opportunity to see a two-minute film clip that introduced nine actors who will be joining the cast this coming season. Each actor revealed the character they would be playing and their thoughts on joining the series.

Death was an inevitable part of the panel, given that the show has become known for killing off its major characters through both gory and devastating plot devices. Some of the actors say that they have a rough idea of what happens, and others simply hope for the best.

The producers and Martin were quick to point out that the books do not necessarily foreshadow what will happen on the television show. They warned fans who read the books that a character’s survival in that medium does not guarantee life on television.

“The show is the show and the books are the books and I keep them separate,” Martin said. According to USA Today, He offered a confession, too: The man who has created this massive fantasy world said, “I’m running out of names.”

The fantasy drama set on fictional continents has become the most-watched show HBO, drawing an average gross audience of 18.4 million viewers over season four and growing a loyal fan base.

The fifth season has already begun filming. It will air in April 2015.
