Her brother Frankie was allowed to hear the news while competing on Big Brother.
Ariana Grande has been having a rough week. Famous for her singles Problem and Break Free, the singer has been keeping her fans updated on her grandfather’s illness. Despite the well wishes of his granddaughter’s 16.8 million followers on Twitter, 90-year-old Frank Grande lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday July 23. Grande updated her fans first by tweeting “I lost you to the summer wind,” and then clarifying, “we did lose my favorite person to ever exist yesterday.”
US Magazine reports that Grande did manage to make a scheduled appearance on Good Morning America the morning of July 24, but flew immediately back to her family in Florida. She continued to tweet appreciation to her fans, writing, “thank you so much for your continuous love.”
Another member of the family has also been in the spotlight during this sad process: Grande’s brother Frankie is a current competitor on Big Brother on CBS. E!Online reports show producers gave Frankie a letter from his family explaining his grandfather’s death. He was pictured reading and reacting to it on the show’s live feed, and his family was able to see his reaction. His sister tweeted about the experience, writing, “sobbing/laughing hysterically. Love u Frankie so much.”
Service details for Frank Grande have not been announced.
