Network announces plans to air every episode of 'The Simpsons' and allow subscribers to watch them all online.
A year after obtaining the exclusive cable network rights to The Simpsons, FXX has announced plans to put the entire series online. Every episode of the longest-running primetime animated series will be fully searchable on their new “Simpsons World” website, and can be accessed via computer or other networked devices.
Subscribers will have instant access to the compete series on iPhone, iPad, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Android phones and tablets, Smart TVs, and additional set-tops devices. To make the “Simpsons World” online experience even more complete, fans will be able to search for specific quotes, curate their own own personalized playlists, and share their favorite show clips and quotes. Fans who are not FXX-subscribers will still be able to watch clips on the website, but they will not have access to the full episodes.
While Hulu carries a library of their own classic Simpsons clips, the streaming service only allows viewers to watch the series’ eight most recent episodes. FXX’s “Simpsons World” site will dramatically widen the availability of the popular show’s online content.
“I don’t want to over-promise, but this website can provide you with affordable health care,” said Simpsons executive producer Al Jean.
FXX has also announced that, starting on Aug. 21, they will air every one of the 522 episodes which have been released over the series’ past 25 seasons, as well as The Simpsons Movie. According to the network, airing nothing but The Simpsons 24 hours a day for 12 straight days will make this the longest-running marathon in television history.
