World Cup theme song helps Shakira conquer Facebook

With 100 million likes, Shakira is now the most liked celebrity on Facebook after her World Cup theme song La La La (Brazil 2014).

Shakira is officially the most popular public figure on Facebook with a whopping total of more than 100 million likes.

This sudden jump in public support for the singer on social media is attributed to her successful single “La La La (Brazil 2014),” which was used as one of the theme songs for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

This year’s World Cup, hosted in Brazil, hit record numbers of viewership for a soccer event. For example, in the United States over 26.5 million viewers watched a single soccer game: the match between Germany and Argentina. With more people than ever watching the World Cup, it’s easy to see why Shakira found success with her song that was featured as one of the theme songs.

Shakira aims at reaching many fans across the globe by utilizing a social media team that posts in different languages, including English, Spanish, and Russian. This makes the singer’s account more accessible than other celebrity accounts who only post in English.

On top of having her social media team post to her accounts, Shakira herself posts to her fans. She identifies this for her fans by signing her name under the posts.

Social media has proved to be a great way for celebrities to interact with their fans. In fact, celebrities have taken sides on which platforms they choose to use. Although Shakira has found success with Facebook, other celebrities are more successful on Twitter. Katy Perry, for instance, became the first celebrity to pass the 50 million followers threshold on Twitter.
