The 100 million “likes” makes Shakira the most popular public figure on the website. Her recent uptick in “likes” is thanks in large part to the World Cup theme song, which she performed.
An image of her performing the theme song, “La La La (Brazil 2014),” at the Maracanã Stadium before the World Cup Final garnered more than 3.5 million “likes” on the social media site in just four days.

“Social media and specifically Facebook has helped myself and other artists bridge the gap between the stage and the audience,” said Shakira in a statement.
To honor the 100-million mark on Facebook, Shakira returned to the social media platform to express a special thank you to her fans.
“Thank you for your loyalty and your love,” said the singer, in the video she posted to Facebook. “It really is incredible.”
Shakira’s video was posted Friday. It has already attracted more than 650,000 “likes.”
