Competitors focus on highlighting the positive as PS4 comes out on top for the sixth month running.
For the sixth straight month, Sony’s PlayStation 4 has outsold Microsoft’s Xbox One, and all other video game consoles for that matter. New market research from NPD reveals that Sony again topped the sales charts for the month of June. Even Microsoft slashing $100 off the Xbox’s price was not enough to catch the PS4 juggernaut.
Sony reveled in its success, tweeting “Breaking news: PS4 is #1 top-selling US next-gen console in June, 6th month in a row. Thanks for your support! <3”
Sony’s rivals, meanwhile, focused on the positive.
“Over the past month, we’ve seen a strong spike in interest in our Xbox One console options,” said Microsoft via Xbox Wire. “Since the new Xbox One offering launched on June 9th, we’ve seen sales of Xbox One more than double in the US, compared to sales in May, and solid growth in Xbox 360 sales.”
Microsoft is referring here to the the Xbox One’s price drop from $499 to $399 in early June, when the Redmond-based company began selling a Kinect-less version of the games console. Microsoft claims its sales have more than doubled since the price-drop, but has not yet released any hard figures.
Nintendo, for its part, highlighted the success of Mario Kart 8, telling Time that it was June’s best selling game, with 470,000 physical and digital units sold in the month, bringing the total to more than 885,000 units sold (in the U.S.) in the game’s first five weeks.
The video game hardware market overall increased significantly last month. Gaming hardware sales grew by 106 percent in June, according to the International Business Times.
