The former First Lady and Secretary of State appeared to promote her nonfiction book Hard Choices.
Maybe Stephen Colbert will have more luck. Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show Tuesday night to promote her book Hard Choices and managed to resist the host’s good-natured prompts to declare her candidacy for the 2016 presidential elections.
According to the L.A. Times, Stewart began the show by announcing that Clinton was appearing “solely for one reason: to publicly and definitively declare her candidacy for president of the United States…I think.” During the interview, after poking fun at the size of her book, which details her time as Secretary of State under President Obama, Stewart continued to encourage Clinton, commenting “it’s an incredibly, I think, complex and well-reasoned eyewitness view to the history of those four years. I think I speak for everybody when I say, no one cares. They just want to know if you’re running for president.”
When Clinton failed to give a definitive answer to the direct approach, Stewart shifted gears, asking her more roundabout questions such as if she enjoyed “constant, non-stop criticism” or if she preferred a “certain shape” for her office, such as Oval. Clinton responded cheerfully to all questions but did not make any definite announcements.
According to ABC News, the 66-year-old former First Lady’s memoir is second on the New York Times’ nonfiction bestseller list. It was her second appearance on the Daily Show, with the first coming during her (first?) presidential campaign in 2008.
