Radio icon Casey Kasem passed away one month ago, but a source told the Daily News on Wednesday that his body still hasn’t been buried and remains in a Washington state mortuary. Casey’s daughter Kerri Kasem fought to win medical conservatorship of her father, but his wife Jean has authority over his remains and is reportedly delaying his burial until a private autopsy can be conducted.

St. Anthony Hospital spokesman Scott Thompson has stated that Kasem’s wife collected his remains from the hospital upon his death, but Thompson does not know what arrangements she made after that. Sources have stated that Jean is possibly paying for the additional autopsy to prove that she is not responsible for her late husband’s death. Kerri filed a police report in Santa Monica against her estranged step-mother, due to her belief that Jean hastened her father’s death by removing him from his nursing home in the middle of the night against his doctor’s wishes.

Three of the American Top 40 host’s children, Kerri, Mike, and Julie, hope that their father will soon be buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale as per his wishes, but their representative Danny Deraney states that the children “didn’t want to play any games,” and that the delay in laying Kasem to rest has nothing to do with conflict over a burial location. Despite not having access to his remains, the three siblings held a memorial for their father on Jun. 21 at Bel Air Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles.

“[Having] all of his family, friends and coworkers come together to remember and pay tribute to him was beautiful,” Julie Kasem told People.

A detective with Santa Monica Police confirmed an “active investigation” into elder abuse on Wednesday. The Santa Monica Police department is reportedly aware of Jean’s plans to conduct a private autopsy and has sent a letter to Washington authorities to potentially schedule an official state autopsy.

Jean’s lawyer has thus far declined to comment on the matter.
