Former pro wrestler Jesse Ventura sues SEAL sniper for defamation

Lawyer's for the SEAL sniper's estate argued that Ventura's income was already dropping before the story about the bar fight.

Former pro wrestler Jesse Ventura, who began his career as a Navy SEAL and also served as the governor of Minnesota, testified on Monday in a lawsuit against a fellow Navy SEAL for defamation over an alleged bar fight, Reuters reports.

Ventura claims that his annual income declined rapidly after he was identified by former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who has since died, as the man he got into a bar fight with in “American Sniper: The autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History.”

“I’m claiming I’ve been harmed, and I’m claiming the story is a fabricated lie,” Ventura told the court, according to The New York Times. “That’s what I’m claiming, sir.”

In his book, Kyle said that he swung at a man he referred to as “Scruff Face” in a bar because he was saying disparaging things about the Navy SEALs. During interviews about the book, Kyle revealed that “Scruff Face” was Ventura.

Lawyer’s for Kyle’s estate argued that Ventura’s income was already dropping before the story about the bar fight and that the book had very little effect on his celebrity.

According to Reuters, a witness called by the defense said Monday that she saw the former pro wrestler get punched in a bar fight, but she could not say whether or not it was Kyle who hit him.
