The man faces a second-degree murder charge.
A Louisiana man, accused of murdering his girlfriend and fleeing the state with his three children, has been arrested in Katy, Texas, WWL-TV reports. His kids have been found safe.
Citing the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, WWL-TV notes that 43-year-old Pedro Alberto Monterosso-Navas became the target of a police investigation after officers discovered a woman unconscious in a bathtub on Sunday morning. Two of the couple’s children had gone to a neighbor’s house for help. The woman died in her apartment.
Although authorities originally believed that Monterosso-Navas had bludgeoned his 25-year-old girlfriend to death, KTBS reports that police now think she died due to stab wounds.
Monterroso-Navas faces a second-degree murder charge, The Associated Press reports.
According to WWL-TV, law enforcement was made aware of a phone call between Monterosso-Navas’ child and a friend who was living in Katy, Texas. The friend’s mother called police to inform investigators of the conversation. The information eventually helped police locate and arrest Monterosso-Navas.
