NBC hopes to continue the success of its live-performance shows after "The Sound of Music" last December.
Academy Award winner Christopher Walken will play Captain Hook in NBC’s live performance of Peter Pan, The Hollywood Reporter says.
In December, NBC aired a three-hour live performance of The Sound of Music. Carrie Underwood starred as Maria Rainer and Stephen Moyer played Captain Von Trapp.
Although the show received poor reviews from critics, it marked NBC’s most-viewed non-sporting Thursday since 2004.
NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt is very excited about working with Walken.
“He’s one of the most unique actors in our business,” told reporters on Sunday, according to THR. “He might really just be a song and dance man at heart. This might be the first tap dancing Captain Hook you’ve ever seen.”
Greenblatt also revealed that the network had spoken with Kristen Bell about playing Peter, but couldn’t work around her current TV schedule.
“It’s tricky finding the right person in the schedule that we need it but we’re actually close,” he added. “[Peter is] going to be female.”
