Tour bus crashes in Wyoming’s Grand Teton park

The bus flipped on its side when it went off the pavement and the driver overcorrected.

A tour bus carrying 26 passengers and a driver flipped over on its side about four miles north of Colter Bay Village in Grand Teton National Park on Thursday afternoon, a statement from the National Park Service revealed.

Twenty-four individuals were transported to St. John’s Medical Center in Jackson, Wyoming, for medical care. Two seriously injured individuals were taken via life-flight helicopters to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

The single-vehicle accident caused the complete closure of Highway 89/287 between Colter Bay and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway for almost five hours Thursday. By 9:10 p.m., Grand Teton rangers had reopened the highway.

The bus flipped on its side when it went off the pavement and the driver overcorrected, authorities cited by The Associated Press said.

Although the bus did not completely roll over, the impact of the crash caused some level of injury to all 27 bus passengers. As of 9 p.m. Thursday, most passengers were treated and released from the Jackson hospital. However, five of the more seriously injured passengers were kept for overnight observation. The two passengers flown to Eastern Idaho Medical Center via life flight were listed in fair condition as of Friday morning.
