Was this the right decision?
Curtis Reeves Jr., the retired ex-cop charged with killing a man for texting in a movie theater, was released on bail Friday, The Associated Press reports.
71-year-old Reeves was released on $150,000 bond and is only allowed leave his home to vist church, the doctor’s office or the grocery store. The AP notes that Reeves must also give up his guns.
The ex-police captain shot 43-year-old Chad Oulson at a movie theater in January following a disagreement over the younger man’s  unwillingness to stop texting during movie previews.
In a nine-page ruling, 2nd District Appeals Judge Chris Alternbend sided with Reeves’ lawyers who had argued that it was wrong for their client to be denied bail for such a long period of time, NBC News reports.
“The record suggests no special circumstances or other factors that would justify a reasoned discretionary decision to deny pretrial release,” the appeals court ruled, according to CNN.
The 71 year old’s lawyers have said that Reeves shot Oulson in self defense.
