Shia LaBeouf is ‘receiving treatment’ for alcohol addiction

Despite a recent arrest and rumors about his whereabouts, the actor is not in a rehabilitation facility at this time.

Recent reports of Shia LaBeouf’s whereabouts may have been misleading. This week reports were published on various sites, including RadarOnline, that maintained that the troubled actor, 28, had voluntarily checked himself into a Los Angeles area rehab on Monday. However, on Tuesday LaBeouf’s representative commented to CNN that he was not in rehab, but instead receiving a more vague form of “treatment” for his struggles.

The statement asserts that “contrary to previous erroneous reports, Shia LaBeouf has not checked into a rehabilitation facility but he is voluntarily receiving treatment for alcohol addiction.”

The speculation comes after a long string of headline-producing misbehavior, including accusations of plagiarism in December and allegations of a bar fight in January. The most recent incident occurred on Thursday, June 26, when LaBeouf was removed by police from a Broadway theater performance for disorderly behavior. He was charged Friday with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, and harassment, and is due back in court on July 24.

LaBeouf’s rep added to yesterday’s statement that, “he understands that these recent actions are a symptom of a larger health problem and he has taken the first of many necessary steps towards recovery.” A working actor since the age of 14, LaBeouf is likely most famous for his now-recast role in the Transformers movies, and next will be seen in Brad Pitt’s WWII film Fury.
