Hewitt is back on the network that helped make her a household name.
Jennifer Love Hewitt is returning to the CBS network as a series regular on the procedural Criminal Minds. She is set to appear in the October 1 season premiere of the long-running drama, which is now entering its tenth season.
The actress will play Kate Callahan, described as “a seasoned undercover agent whose stellar work at the FBI has landed her a coveted position with the Behavioral Analysis Unit,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Erica Messer, executive producer and showrunner on Criminal Minds issued a statement about Hewitt’s addition to the cast of the hit show. “We’re thrilled to introduce a new special agent by adding the very talented Jennifer Love Hewitt to our amazing cast,” said Messer. “Many of us on the show have enjoyed working with her over the years and look forward to again. We have exciting storylines planned for her character and the entire BAU team as we head into our 10th season.”
Hewitt is back on the network that helped make her a household name. She previously played Melinda Gordon in the spiritual drama The Ghost Whisperer, which ran for five seasons before coming to an end in 2010. Most recently, she starred in the Lifetime TV movie The Client List which spawned a series of the same name that ran for two seasons on the cable network. The show ended its run in November.
Criminal Minds stars Joe Mantenga, Thomas Gibson, Shemar Moore and Jeanne Tripplehorn who play a fictional team of behavioral profilers with the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit located in Quantico, Virginia. The show portrays a different murder mystery every week, but instead of focusing on the crime that has been committed, each episode profiles the criminal responsible as the team works together to stop them from striking again.
Criminal Minds airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on CBS.
