Cameron Diaz is doing something she’s never done before in her 20 year acting career: she’s going fully nude in her latest film.
The 41-year-old actress stars alongside Jason Segel in the raunchy comedy Sex Tape, in which the two play a bored married couple who put a little spice back in their marriage by making a sex video. But when it gets leaked by accident, they struggle to track it down.
Appearing in the August issue of Esquire, Diaz talks about her bold career move. “It’s a first for me,” explained Diaz. “But Jason gets naked, too. It’s just a part of the role. So I did it. I mean, you see everything.”
Her co-star, Segel, is no stranger to doing nude scenes, having gone full frontal in the 2007 comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall. But for Diaz, this role felt liberating as she embraces her upcoming birthday at the end of August.
“I like being 41. I love it,” says Diaz in the latest issue of Esquire “So much s— just falls away. Fear, mostly. It’s the best age. That’s when a woman knows how to work things, or she doesn’t care about that anymore. You just stop being afraid. You don’t worry about what men think. You just don’t worry that time registers anything awful.”
But there is one scene in her new film that appears to have caused her more stress than going naked on-camera: giving birth. “I found myself in a room in the middle of nowhere Massachusetts at 11:00 at night doing a childbirth scene, and everybody’s screaming at one another — Jason, the cameramen, the director,” said Diaz. “And me acting like I’m trying to push a basketball out of my vajoon. Crazy s—, right? And the thing is, I always take a moment to say, ‘We’re lucky. This is a great job. A fun job.’”
However, when asked if she would like to have kids of her own someday, she’s very specific: “it’s so much more work to have children.”
Sex Tape opens in theatres on July 18.
