The issue appeared to be resolved by Saturday morning.
For more than 24-hours late this week, Verizon Wireless experienced a widespread outage. While data service and calls were not affected, customers throughout the midwest, northeast and south were unable to access the carrier’s online services, prohibiting customers from logging into their accounts, paying their bills and upgrading or activating their phones.
Several Verizon retail stores confirmed to the Verge that the carrier was “dealing with major problems.”
As one would expect, complaints about the service disruption spread quickly across Twitter. Business Insider posted a sampling of unhappy customer tweets.
“We are unfortunately experiencing issues with our billing system, affecting customer accounts mostly in Northeast, Midwestern and some southern states,” a Verizon spokesperson told Business Insider. “We are working on a fix. This is an internal billing systems issue not affecting network services; call, text, data services unaffected. Verizon Wireless apologizes for any inconvenience.”
As of 9:39 a.m. EST Saturday morning, the outage appeared be resolved. The Verge reports that Verizon alerted customers by email that the My Verizon outage was over. “We apologize for any inconvenience,” the email states.
“An issue that was impacting our billing system for some customers in the NE, MW & South is now fixed,” reads a message on Verizon’s customer support forums.
It is unknown how the carrier will handle bills that came due during the outage, which customers were unable pay.
