General Motors has already had to recall 2.6 million cars this year, and now they are recalling 475,000 more.
General Motors has announced that they will be recalling around 475,000 more cars, including the 2014-2015 models of the Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra. These cars could have a fault in which the control module software in the four-wheel drive system automatically switches to neutral without the driver wanting it to do so.
According to GM, as a result of the failure, the car couldĀ “roll away if the parking brake is not set” while the car is parked. They also said that they know of no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.
GM is also recalling around 4,800 2013-2014 Chevrolet Caprice police cars and 2014 Chevrolet SS sport sedans in the US because of an issue that could prevent the windshield wipers from working. Another recall involves 2,050 2014 Chevrolet Corvettes because of a problem with the rear shock.
General Motors has had a pretty rough year so far, and have already recalled over 20 million vehicles in 2014 alone. Not only that, but they are also under investigation by Congress, the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission because of a delayed recall of cars that could have an ignition switch problem. This problem is reportedly the cause of at least 13 deaths.
GM began recalling vehicles in February, 11 years after the ignition switch problems were detected, after which they began recalling 2.6 million Chevrolet Cobalts, Saturn Ions and Skys, Pontiac 5s and Solstices made between 2003 and 2011.
The recalls include a number of the car makers best sellers, and GM has had to set aside around $2 billion for repairs in the second quarter, which does not include the recalls that were just announced.
